driven by trips to japan and continual frustration at being unable to read the language, michael johnson and his team at johnson banks have been trying to design a katakana typeface that has english phonetic sounds embedded: ‘phonetikana’. (via johnson banks: phonetikana)

Got back to Seoul today from Boracay. Good to be home. Got bumped up to business class from Manilla to Seoul. I don’t ride with the riff-raff no more….
Made it to Boracay today. It’s windy and rainy. Probably more of the same the next few days. Ate pizza in a treehouse for dinner. Been drinking. It’s cheap and fun. Be here until next Sunday.
This morning we got up at 5:30 a.m. to go snorkeling. We hired a small boat and guide who took us out for 1500 piso’s. They said we’d see dolphins, but it was too windy and the waves were pretty big, so no dolphins were to be seen.
It took about 45 minutes to get to Balicasag Island where we rented flippers and snorkeled for about an hour. Needless to say, but I’ll say it anyways, it was amazing. Saw all kinds of cool fish and coral. It was a bit overcast and it rained a little, but still had a great time.
On Sunday morning, we checked out of our hotel and went to Bo’s Coffee Shop in Cebu City. Hung out there for an hour, and then made our way to Pier 1 and bought our ferry tickets to Tagbilaran, Bohol. We had to wait for about 2.5 hours before the next ferry left, so we walked back out to a small market area, bought some water and some chip’s and sat down in a little restaurant. We also bought some sweet ube rolls from a little bakery that were delicious.
The ferry to Bohol took about 1.5 hours. Once there, we took a cab from Tagbilaran to Panglao, which took about 25 minutes. Then came the task of finding reasonable accomodation. We ended up finding a place 20 seconds from the beach in a little nipa hut out behind Oops restaurant for 900 Piso’s (less than $20).
Yesterday, sat on the beach all day, and received full body massages for $6 and foot scrubs.
I’ve been getting drunk everyday, which is great fun.
Today we are chillin’ on the beach again, and then tomorrow up at 6 a.m. to go see dolphins and snorkeling.
I can’t imagine going back to work… . ever.
Got to Manilla last night at 11:30pm. Spent the night in the airport. It was fuckin’ freezing. Filippino’s love air con, unlike many Koreans, whom think it will cause them to die.
Got on a plane at 4:30am, and reached Cebu City at 6am. We jumped in a cab and headed “uptown”, found a youth hostel, however, it was too early and they refused to open their doors. So we jumped in a jeepney-a modified jeep/bus for 7 piso’s each and got out at Fuentes Circle. Went to a cute place recommended by Lonely Planet called Fuentes Pension House. However, they were completely booked. So we went across the street to Apple Suites, and got a room, slept until about 2 pm, and then headed out.
Found a coffee place and sat there for a while planning out the rest of our trip. Tomorrow we are heading out early to Bohol. Hopefully, no rain.
